A few bottles...
No wonder my taste buds were fried...
Torn off the shelves...
Now with shoulderpads!
It's going to be a blast! We are thirty-odd people, and we start by going to Odense to play ice hockey.
There is a task for every one. Som are couches, others team managers, we have photographers and an audience.
I signed up to be a player. Never mind I can't ice skate, and that I only have experience from floor hockey - that's not going to stop me.
Our couch is Irma - or rather, she is now Aleksei Kovalev, because she's given us all new, cool ice hockey names. I now go by the name of Louie DeBrusk. I will do my best to live up to it!
Here is the original DeBrusk in action ...
After the crowd bears us from the ice as winners - we are going to a cottage to do some sort of team activity - non-violent, this time, I think!
Then it's time for a bit of dinner and some red wine, I believe, and I get to sleep with 3 other ladies.
Friday? I'll take the rest of the day off - after we come back.
I can't wait - it'll be great fun!

Straight out of the 40'es...
Fall = knitting time
As I've mentioned earlier, I have been challenged by a pattern that is actually quite easy - but in a yarn that is difficult. Thin and wooly, tangling up and difficult to unravel if you make a mistake. But with sweat, swearwords and a lot of patience I have managed, and now I can wear my warm, light scarf around my neck...
All over blogland everybody is knitting Woodland-scarves. I have joined in - trying to get better at knitting and reading instructions, so smaller things like scarves are wonderful test subjects.
The woodland-pattern is not difficult at all - I have put the recipe away and is knitting easily. My scarf is a bit dense - the yarn is a bit thick for the pins, but so it will be. I think I have enough of the offwhite kid-mohair to knit a woodland, but first I want to practise in this cheaper yarn ... and it does look nice.
It will come along in the car today, when we go visit Brunos parents. It was Bents birthday the day before we went on vacation, so we owe them one.
It's nice on a lazy sunday - not having to think about dinner :-)
Meep Meep!!
Busy at work - busy off work.
We did make it to dancing class, though - to note that we are STILL not quite ready to the danish championship in Jive. On the other hand, we do quite well on the english waltz - yeah!
Friday I had my female co-workers (or 4 out of the 8 that we number) from my department out here. It was a good time. I just made it home in time to prepare for their arrival, because I had a meeting in Grenå from 9 in the morning to noon.
The good thing about the meeting was that I really got to catch up on my sleep deficit on the 2 hour drive. Elis was driving - and I snooooozed all the way up there - woke up in Tirstrup. On the way home i was sure I wouldn't be able to sleep, but having forgotten both my book and my knitting, I was bored enough to doze off a bit north of Århus. And I woke up very well rested just before we got off the motorway in Fredericia.
SNOoOoORE ... 3 hours extra sleep, I would guess, right into my sleep account that has been quite overdrawn this week.
Yesterday Bruno had the winter cup testrun. Bodil and I went shopping for clothes for her. She was needing pants - and we found some for her.
About winter cup, I had decided not to join this year. But then I got an offer I couldn't refuse - Brunos partner bailed out, so Bruno suggested we made a mix team.
I gladly said yes - condition is that I get out of the december-race, that is the day after Bankdatas christmas party...
Today we go visit Brunos parents.
Tomorrow a hard task awaits. With the rest of the board of the wine club, I have to taste LOADS of wine - we are selecting wines for the christmas present, Bankdata gives its employees. About 100 wines - so we will be spitting out on the way...
It will be exciting! I keep my fingers crossed for Lene, who is also in the run with som fine wines.

Hospital visit
One of her friends is in there for two weeks now - his blood sugar acting up. He's been diabetic since he was little, but this august he lost his mother, who was the one that used to help him control it.
Now he is in there. His mood is not too good. He is still working his way through a terribly big grief, and needs all the cheering my little sillybunch of a daughter can bring him.
He has told her many serious things, lots about his mother and his feelings, but they can also laugh together. Joke, giggle and generally be silly. And when the things, he tell her, get too big and serious for Bodil to contain, they pass on to me. We've wept together for him, and I have tried to help Bodil help.
I am proud of my caring and spacious daughter, but I also worry a little. Can she handle this? Yes, she says. And all the worries I have about it, she counters calmly. As long as she has me to share it with, she says - then she is fine.
"I am glad to be able to support him," she says "It's hard to hear, but it gives me a lotto listen and help - and being able to make him laugh."
She is tough and lovely.
And I am believing her teacher who lately told me, that she in many ways is very mature. She spoke of her as "socially as well as school-wise, she is the strongest card I have in class."
Her friend is lucky - having Bodil as a friend. I think he knows that too.
Assorted experiences
We had plenty of other things going on, though. Near "our" cottage we found gården Storhave. Here you can grind your own flour, pet a goat and se a sheep get a haircut. That was not what we came for, though.
Another activity was dipping candles - and Bodil and Kristian really wanted to do that. Bodil went for the traditional method, and Kristian made a porcupine candle - a round wax plate where drips make the "needle", that you put around a regular round candle.
While the kids worked, and Bruno drank coffee read books on Læsø, I looked around in the shop, where you can buy Læsø soap and the places own candles. I found som candles I needed, for the dark months ahead.
Another joyful experience was the trip Bodil, Kristian and I went on, on horseback to se the wet area, Rønnerne. We rode icelandic horses. Bruno didn't go, he is not much of a horse-person and would rather take a walk.
Kristian never tried horseback riding before, so we took a beginners trip. He did just fine, even if his horse was a bit silly - it took off after another horse, and kicked its hind legs if someone got to close behind it.
Horseback riding is a fantastic way to see this flat, wet area. We'd been out there earlier on foot, but soon we had to give up, because our sneakers didn't suit that kind of terrain - we would have needed rubber boots or something. On horseback it is no problem - they dont mind getting their feet wet...
Then there was the day where we took a walk on the north island. Læsø is full of gorgeous areas, and nature varies a lot. This day we walked out on the beach and home inland.
The beach was lovely. And there were lots of beautiful shells, wanting to come home with us.
Inland the nature changed a lot. We went on narrow paths through the damp lowland, and the fresh air went to some heads (ahem...).
Something happensto the light and the sky, when you go north in Denmark. It is so beautiful. And for once the kids didn't complain about how far we had to walk. I think the variation kept them happy.
Oh yes ... and we visited Læsø Uldstue... A fine old Læsø-dwelling on the outside, and a bountyland of lovely yarns and beautiful knitted items.
For every step I took in there, I fell in love with colours and textures. But I controlled myself, and only bought 2 rolls of Kidopale mohair for a scarf. That I came back for a BIT more later, we don't have to mention now....
Naturally we couldn't go to Læsø without visiting saltsyderiet! Everyone in Denmark knows Læsø salt - and this summer I got a glass of it as a present, with built in spice, and found out how delicious it is (Thank you Lene) Now we had a chance to see where they make the salt.
We heard a lecture on the salty history of Læsø, and how the salt is made, to this day. There are actually 20 people working there. It started in 1991.
We bought some salt, of course - a bit cheaper than I've seen it at home.
Yes - we did have a vacation full of experiences, and then I didn't even tell you about the day, Bruno and I went for a walk in a landscape that was almost african...
It even had snakes!!
...well ... there was this one snake ... even if it wasn't very big.
And a pretty red mushroom - I wonder if it was poison??
Yeah ... it is really wild, that nature on Læsø....
Journey to Læsø
Last saturday we had to leave quite early - at 9, we wanted to have plenty of time to catch the 12.30 ferry from Frederikshavn - and it's a 3 hour drive from here.
We were up and all packed, and rolled out of our driveway at 8.59, som you gotta say we were precise!
Actually, we were in very good time to catch the ferry, even though we'd stopped into a McD's on the way to get coffee. And the weather was just glorious!
On the ferry, Bodil didn't want to get outside on the deck with us - she was comfy with her MP3 inside.
At this point, we were hungry - so we got a bit to eat on the ferry. It was good, but very expensive! It was the only bought food we got that week - so it didn't really matter.
After we'd eaten, some of us wanted to go outside to feel the air and look at the water.
And suddenly we could see land!
We rented our cottage over the internet. It looked fine there - a renovated farm house, just outside of Vesterø. Seeing it for real, it actually was better than we expected - nice and clean and cozy, and the owners lit a fire for us and set flowers in the living room.
The weather was still nice, and a yellow, sunbaked wall commands coffee-drinking outside. So we did.
The kids would rather sit inside and watch telly - but that was over fairly soon, coz there were only 2 channels!
Instead we took to one of our favourite vacation passtimes: playing! We love to family-gamble, and this week we've played tons of card and dice, lots of chess, several games of "Draw and Guess" and even a game of Monopoly (which I won).
Here the arch rivals of chess meet.
Oh, we had a lovely week. I've gotten my pace waaay down, on top of a couple of very busy weeks before our vacation.
I feel how my shoulders have left the vicinity of my ears, and I like it.
It's good to be out...
That is, at least, how it feels, when you come back to your OWN bed, after a wonderful weeks worth of vacation.
We arrived home last night at 10 - on the way home we stopped off in Storvorde, where my mother fed us late lunch and dinner. My sister and her family joined us for dinner, and we had a good time.
At 8 we rolled on home - knowing that the car had to be emptied and the house had to be warmed up. So we drove south, with music in the car. First by Tina Dickow - we just bought her new album, "Count to ten", and we had to hear it. Good stuff - we both enjoy this little blond dane that sounds like a mix between Joni Mitchell and Bonnie Raitt.
After Tina finished, we broke into song ourselves - Bruno and I went through a medley of old danish evergreens. Starting in Skanderborg, we worked our way through a bunch of songs - sometimes the kids were able to join in.
In that manner time passed quicker. Well at home, Bodil went straight to bed - she was beat. Kristian started up his computer and TV - he was needing a shot.
Bruno and I unpacked and started the washer - and tried to keep warm in the still cold house.
But boy, it was good to get into my own bed!
Andreas thought the same. He came home yesterday, and leaves again tomorrow. He is stationed at Rosenborg at the moment, where he looks out for her Majesty. He mostly gets one day off, and its been like that for a while. Troublesome, when you have an hour transport to Copenhagen, before you can head on home.
Tomorrow Bodil goes to Copenhagen with her class, and Bruno goes to Germany for work. Kristian and I get to look after each other.
I bet we can handle that.

Annoyalty! :-(
Andreas thought he was off until friday, but yesterday he had to go back, because he is guarding Amalienborg tomorrow.
Bugger.
He is upset, coz he was planning to cheer for Kristina when she had to take her driving test today, they planned for him to drive her to Børkop, and for them to have a nice lunch together after the test.
Fortunately she passed, without Andreas' support on the spot.
Bugger-prince. I wonder if anyone would miss him, even if somebody kidnapped him??
Why bother my poor son??

Lovely lunch
As a bonus, we got to have lunch at the nicest inn on the way home.
Here they serve lovely omelettes in historic settings. The inn has been run by the Fiil-family for many years (since 1788), and during WWII the owner of the inn was active in the well known resistance unit the Hvidsten group. They were all shot by the germans - a sad story.
The inn lies beatifully right by the road between Mariager og Randers. Inside it is cozy like an old fashioned living room, and it is still run by the Fiil family. It was the present Fiil that served us omelette in the comfort of the inn.
We chatted cozily and enjoyed a beer with our omelette, before we had to take off again. Unfortunately we couldn't stay for long. I would have liked to occupy this chair with a goodbook, a knitted blanket and a glass of red wine...
Instead we had to get back on the freeway, but it didn't take long for me and Bøge to fall asleep. Good thing that Elis had water with his omelette - he was driving!
I will surely take my family to Hvidsten Kro some time - had almost forgotten it was right there, offering omelettes...

A walk in Memphis
I always had a thing for this song. And the mans voice just hits you - right in the ovaries...
Here goes the lyrics:
Put on my blue suede shoes
And I boarded the plane
Touched down in the land of the Delta Blues
In the middle of the pouring rain
W.C. Handy -- won't you look down over me
Yeah I got a first class ticket
But I'm as blue as a boy can be
Then I'm walking in Memphis
Walking with my feet ten feet off of Beale
Walking in Memphis
But do I really feel the way I feel
Saw the ghost of Elvis
On Union Avenue
Followed him up to the gates of Graceland
Then I watched him walk right through
Now security they did not see him
They just hovered 'round his tomb
But there's a pretty little thing
Waiting for the King
Down in the Jungle Room
(Chorus)
They've got catfish on the table
They've got gospel in the air
And Reverend Green be glad to see you
When you haven't got a prayer
But boy you've got a prayer in Memphis
Now Muriel plays piano
Every Friday at the Hollywood
And they brought me down to see her
And they asked me if I would --
Do a little number
And I sang with all my might
And she said --
"Tell me are you a Christian child?"
And I said "Ma'am I am tonight"
(Chorus)
Put on my blue suede shoes
And I boarded the plane
Touched down in the land of the Delta Blues
In the middle of the pouring rain
Touched down in the land of the Delta Blues
In the middle of the pouring rain
